Buenos dias, Laredo...

Well, we left Waco about 1:30pm and arrived at the FJ in Laredo at 7:45pm - 322 miles. Along the way there were 5 separate accidents. One accident northbound I35 just outside of San Antonio involved a Greyhound bus, the front end of which, was hanging over an overpass. Did you ever wonder why buses are allowed to fly down the interstate at 80 mph with no left lane restrictions with 50 souls and a shit load of luggage (and oranges) on board?

Here at exit 13 FJ, and soon T/A, has broken the back of the truck stop monopoly that Pilot has had down here for years. Pilot managed to screw drivers with high fuel prices and paid parking. Every time I pull into the relatively new FJ, I look across the interstate and remember how angry I used to get going into the Pilot. It will be good having the T/A, but I see they are installing that stupid Idle Aire. If the T/A sticks to having just a Burger King as their only meal source, I'll eat at the FJ, then park down at our terminal. Further south on I35 before the Wal-Mart, you can get a good meal for a fair price at the Golden Corral or the large Chinese buffet place next to Lowe's on the east side of the interstate.

From the southern tip of San Antonio to Laredo, I saw one border patrol car. First of all, one car sitting by the railroad tracks is worthless. Second, this must be one of the most boring jobs in America, sitting there all day waiting for some poor desperate Mexican to come running by. Can you say "really big fence?" I'd rather see that guy (or gal) sitting in front of a set of high tech cameras monitoring that fence across the border. Remember that Baghdad Bush was the governor of this once great state. Screw Laredo, have you been though Dallas lately? Check out http://weneedafence.com. In addition to "really" securing our southern border, let's start going after the companies who hire these folks! Memorial Day tomorrow - we're sleeping in late and then going shopping at Wal-Mart and H.E.B.
