Home again...
I have no idea how long I've been away OTR, but it's good to be back home. A long time ago we moved away from the Northeast to get away from the "rat race." Problem is the damn race along with the rats decided to follow us down here to Florida. Surrounding my house is a testament to government waste and bureaucracy. Coupled with poor planning, a road system that will never be able to handle the traffic and far too many folks I don't like from Ohio, Indiana and Canada, it is better to stay inside than leave. A trip to the beach, 8 miles away, is, trust me, too stressful. These unwanted "foreigners" from the Mid West used to leave in the summer - our winter - but now they hang around all year long. Because I'm a poor trucker and my wife is an underpaid teacher, it gets more and more difficult to keep up the house. To live the "Florida" lifestyle, you need a pool, a powerful and reliable air conditioner, a boat - doesn't matter what the size, a nice car and a family income of about $100K. We don't even come close. My wife of 30 years is awesome, but is not a traditional home maker. Remember the old movie where Robert Redford goes into work and cute Jane would stay home and clean, paint and cook. Well, I "ain't" Bob and my wife isn't Jane. And my son, who recently moved back into his old room after the rent on his apartment went up to $1300 a month, assumes his room and board is free. So, bottom line, the "ole" homestead needs a major over haul. Our pool is an empty pit and even with decent credit, I wouldn't try for a boat. Two times in the past the trucking companies I had worked for closed their doors. Another time, the owner operator I worked for screwed up our taxes. Years later, we are still trying to recover. So I'm home with too much to do and not enough time to take care of business. Truckers know - you don't drive, you don't get paid. Too soon it will time to leave again. As Joel Osteen says, I'm hoping for better, every day. **the photo os s3677 classic stock/right managed from Fotosearch.com
