The bottom line is this...if you're a OTR trucker, like myself, you are working twice as hard to make a decent living. There is freight. I am moving tons of roofing material, slinkies and coil from the Northeast to Indiana and North Carolina and back. I used to cover the entire nation, but in this economy, I have become a regional driver. When I have put in my 4 weeks away, I drop out of the region and head home to Florida. After a few days off, it's back up to the Northeast to resume the routine. A tarped load from the Indiana to Long Island City pays me about $140 extra on top of an already prime JIT rate. Freight anywhere else ios just not worth my time. There have a few days of not moving waiting. Then it's get it fast and get it there fast. And that's ok for now. It pays the bills.
