Congress doesn't give a crap about finding cures for Cancer and AIDS, won't change the outdated laws categorizing you as unskilled labor, spends little or no time developing an efficient and cost effective energy policy your industry and won't give you and your family health coverage 1/2 as good as they get. It's just sooo important (and easy) to force drivers to lose weight, conform to a ridiculous BMI formula, not let you get a (private and confidential) physical from your own family physician, test how you sleep at night and not get paid when you're out of work when you don't pass their absurd test.
You're pawns. And the Congress and the FMCSA still thinks it's "healthy" for you to drive 11 hours and "work" 14 hours a day for $.90 cents an hour! The Congress and the FMSCA don't give a crap that truck drivers are making the same OR LESS than they did 10 years ago. Health insurance costs have tripled. The price of food has doubled. Diesel is $4+ a gallon. Any hurricane blowing across the Gulf could force fuel prices as high as $6 a gallon. We occupy a major oil producing country, but can't get more supply at cheaper prices. Did you know the price of a lousy truck wash - Blue Beacon - is now $50!
Just how damn "healthy" is it to allow carriers to threaten drivers with their jobs if they don't shut down their trucks at night? How healthy and safe is it to sleep in the bunk of a truck in 85 degree weather with a lousy fan running? The ATA, OOIDA, the FMCSA and Congress does NOT about any of it. They don't care if you can't afford a doctor or an APU. Nooo, but they're going to tell you how to eat, sleep and take a crap. Your medical history isn't yours anymore, it belong to the state. And what are you doing about it? Nothing. Because you're all a bunch of morons.
OOIDA tells you they just won a "landmark" decision after a 6 year court battle. Whaaaaa - if you morons had just read the damn lease agreements and asked the right questions and consulted a lawyer BEFORE you signed on with Landstar, you wouldn't have been screwed. Caveat Emptor morons - buyer beware! OOIDA considers anything they do "landmark." When Jim Johnson takes a shit, believe me, OOIDA considers it "landmark." And, the trucking media, folks like Evan Lockridge, gives 90 minutes air time on satellite radio to some slime ball that somehow has wrangled his way onto the ATA's medical policy committee. They don't give a fuck about drivers health - they do care about opening more "clinics" to get your money.
