Not for me. Not this year. I have no time to screw around attending some totally useless trade show in the middle of a depression.
I didn’t have in ‘05, ‘06, ‘07, ’08 and certainly not now. Probably not ever. I need to keep movin’ to make money – to pay the mortgage and my bills. And, there is no freight moving in or out of Louisville. All that business moved to Mexico. That’s where the trucking show should really be.
Exhibit Management Associates of Louisville KY tells us in their promo material that the “profile” of the “typical” visitor is: “truck drivers, owner operators, small fleet operators, freight forwarders, freight brokers, and anyone interested in a career change and/or in learning how to make real money in trucking are the target visitors.”
Bullshit. What crack head wrote that? If I had the money to screw around for a few days, I’d be on a cruise to the Caribbean. OOIDA, the ATA, the useless trucking media who wouldn’t know a truck from a scooter, retirees, old-farts and people that like shiny things will be there in force. OOIDA has the time and your money. They’re not doing anything else for us. So why not a trade show.
I guarantee that you cannot learn how to make “real money” in trucking. Screwing your broker’s wife is the best way, but I don’t think they’re going to have a “seminar” on that. Blowing your driver manager works, but again, most folks going to the show wouldn’t know how.
And for the exhibitors – who cares? News flash - pinheads – nobody is buying anything. The truck stops – sorry – travel plazas – are dying. The banks are dead. Credit is virtually nonexistent right now. How do you expect me to buy a truck? From my stimulus check from Obama? Yeah right!
