The lingering question this year will be whether #1 Takeru Kobayashi will be able to defend his World Champion title against #2 Joey Chestnut. Last year, Kobayashi ate 53.75 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes to win. However, in a recent competition Chestnut consumed 59 1/2 dogs. Kobayashi has complained about a sore jaw. Everyone will be holding their breath to see if Kobayashi can compete. In descending order, the top 5 contestants are Kobayashi, Chestnut, Patrick Bertoletti, Sonya Thomas and Bob Shoudt.
