Special report from the staff...
If you happen to be home on the 4th, tune in to ESPN's coverage of the Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest from Coney Island, NY. The winning prize will be $20,000 and the "coveted" mustard yellow belt. The lingering question this year will be whether #1 Takeru Kobayashi will be able to defend his World Champion title against #2 Joey Chestnut. Last year, Kobayashi ate 53.75 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes to win. However, in a recent competition Chestnut consumed 59 1/2 dogs. Kobayashi has complained about a sore jaw. Everyone will be holding their breath to see if Kobayashi can compete. In descending order, the top 5 contestants are Kobayashi, Chestnut, Patrick Bertoletti, Sonya Thomas and Bob Shoudt. Thomas is a 110 lbs. female who, not too long ago, ate 8 lbs. of chili cheese fries in 10 minutes! Don't let her size fool you - she is a real threat. There are plenty of web sites on the Internet for more information. The International Federal for Competitive Eating is at http://IFOCE.com and/or http://MajorLeagueEating.com
