Marauder (your company) 607 (truck number), this is Kenly tower (the Flying J), you're cleared for landing - runway 106 (Exit 106) use taxiway i95 (the interstate) after touchdown. I know you do this - you pretend that when driving your truck, you make believe you're flying a jet. You turn off the CB and use the mic to tell your passengers you're 20 miles out and please raise the seat tables and fasten their seat belts. "Flight crew, prepare for landing" You reach up to the top of the cab and press the buttons for the no smoking lights. The light toggle switches are the landing gear. The gas and brake pedals become the left and right rudders. You turn to your imaginary co-pilot, Larry, and say: "gear down, landing check list." You click the mic: "Ladies and gentleman, this is the captain, we've been cleared for the approach to Kenly, on behalf of the entire flight crew, I want to thank you for being with us today." You picture yourself in your white shirt with 4 yellow stripes on each shoulder epaulet - forget that your wearing a ratty torn smelly blue t-shirt - right now your the captain. "Marauder 607, squawk 244986 (your mileage) on your transponder. You respond, "roger tower", knowing that the traffic on either side of you thinks your talking "trucker stuff" on the CB. "Larry, let's take 'er down from 6500 ft (your rpm) to 2500 ft, pilot's discretion. 5 miles out now. As you slow down to move onto to the exit ramp you make the sound of landing gear touching the ground eee eee eee. "Larry, arm the body gear steering please." And you move the arriving aircraft to the assigned gate at the terminal (a front space near the wi-fi antenna at the Flying J). "Great job - see you in the morning for the preflight check. At the breakfast buffet be sure to check what going on with the jet stream for tomorrow's flight. The photo credit link is:
