This, by the way, is our 400th post! Congrats to us. So, here it is. Trucking as an industry is lost. Truckers are innocent pawns. They're sheep being led around by a bloated bureaucratic government that is motivated by establishing highly questionable ends with little or no concern for the means. This has been the situation for truckers forever. I don't envision it changing soon or ever. And that's not ok, but there's a limit to my caring about anything, especially if it, quite honestly, doesn't line my pockets. Hard to believe, but I am a human just like everyone else, just better. And, I'm getting too old to "volunteer" my brilliance to a static cause, even if, for now, I'm still a part of it. I've given my two cents worth, and I feel good for doing it. But, trucking is a valuable industry that is simply not sexy. Pilots are sexy. Ships are sexy. Truckers, or should I say, unskilled - mostly unrepresented labour, are constantly trying to demonstrate their value and failing. It is a combination of stupidity, cowardice and ignorance. No organization (ie: OOIDA) will rectify this. Many truckers are former military. They are accustomed to taking orders. They are not capable of independent proactive thought. Others whine and complain but don't have the knowledge or experience to bring about change. Which partially explains what things are the way they are. Delivering needed material to feed this nation's crunbing infrastructure is eclipsed by useless discussions of urine bottles, lack of overnight parking, childish and vile CB chatter and drivers that look and act like criminals. Trucking cannot find itself. Drivers are their own worst enemy. Trucking cannot target a focus through the rain of negativity to achieve national respect. And with that said, I'm moving in a new direction. Sure, if something in trucking warrants my attention, I'll cover it. But from here on in, we're going to concentrate on this "leper colony" called our country, not so much our citizens, who are innocent ignorant pawns just like truckers, but the government. We're taking an iconoclastic worldview vis a via all our upcoming posts. And truckers, work hard, study long and find a better way to make a living. At least clean up your act, even if it's just you acting as one inconsequential unimportant individual. Photo by V. Grumpy.
