For all you city slickers, this is a moose. I'm not quite sure what a moose does day in and day out, but I would think "it" just does "moose" kinda things. I'm not a hunter. I don't know why you would want to shoot and kill a moose. Maybe hunters prefer those horns on their wall and not on the moose. How about moose burgers? A moose coat? I would love to see a moose in person - mano a moose - and take its picture. I have no desire whatsoever to kill one. Anyway, McCain's VP selection, Sara Palin, at least according to former Sen. Fred Thompson, apparently knows how to "field dress" a moose, she being a lifetime NRA member, hunter and resident of Alaska, which I assume has lots 'a moose. Or is that moose's? Whatever. I thought you would like some of idea of what is involved with field dressing a moose. And I will forewarn you, it is not pretty. "Place the animal on its back, spreading the rear legs using ropes or having your partners hold them apart. If you have several people, or additional rope, do the same with the front legs. A heart-lung shot usually provides adequate bleeding. However, to ensure bleeding, insert a sharp knife into the shallow cavity at the base of the throat and slice across the main blood vessels with a wide and deep, crosswise cut. This opens the jugular veins that run from the heart to the head. Since the animal is dead, blood flow is by gravity. Allow the blood to flow away from the animal, clearing the ground when necessary.
Cut the skin from the base of the ribs downward over the middle of the belly, in a straight line, to the anus, taking care to cut around the genitals slightly. The genitals must be left on one hind quarter in Ontario, for sex identification. Once these cuts are done, prepare to eviscerate the animal." Do you want to know more?
