Time's up "friends"...

This photo is by Doug Mills of The New York Times

Obama or McCain? If you haven't already, you have today and tomorrow to cast your ballot. Yesterday, I heard McCain give his "the Mac is back" speech in Wallingford PA. I thought it was his best effort yet. He finally finds his "voice?" Now he defines his "brand"? Too bad it's 36 hours before the election.

I do have to give 'ole "Mac" a lot of credit. The guy is 72! Another Vietnam "war-hero" - John Ripey - like McCain - a graduate of the US Naval Academy - died Saturday and he was "just" 69. And he wasn't campaigning for President. For the record, some of McCain's statements are (still) incorrect, but it doesn't matter at this point. What's done is done. It's time to vote.

Gov. Palin was speaking in Toledo and Sen. Obama's and his "folks" were holding a huge rally in Cleveland.  I was at the Stretch truck stop in N. Fond du Lac, WI last night. I thought I had missed it. With the time change it got real dark - real early and the rain made visibility even worse. I knew it was off US41, but I didn't know exactly where. I finally saw the sign and parked there for the night.

I mention it, because sitting in the busy "diner" nobody was talking politics at all. Everyone looked tired and "worn-out." The table in front of me - chain smokers - were babbling on about NASCAR and how they hate Jeff Gordon. But no word about Obama or McCain or Palin. I had the pork chop special which was delicious, even if it took 30 minutes to cook.

And by the way, on election night, I am not planning on listening to any of the nonsense. I'm planning on "turning in" early and finish a book I've been reading about submarines. Whatever happens, happens. I'll just wake up Wednesday morning, make a cup of my favorite hazelnut coffee and hopefully there will be a "clear" winner with no litigating the results.
