Again, Fox News is NOT News...

"They" are NOT journalists. This is how you put on the news. First, report on the days events of the McCain campaign. He's covering a lot of ground today - what are his goals, how is he handling the pressure, etc. That should cover approximately 2 minutes. Then move on to what's going on with Obama - 2 minutes. Next, have reporters talk to people who still have to vote. Why did they wait, what are their concerns, etc. - 3 minutes. Then a 3 minute overview of how the States are going to handle the voting. You have filled the first 10 minutes of the broadcast and you have delivered what is fair and balanced news. Throw in a commercial break after the Obama update. And you've made some money.

But this is NOT the Fox agenda. Take the 9am (EST) broadcast today with Bill Hemmer and Megyn Kelly. Before they go on air, the earlier broadcast of Fox & Friends is concluding hosted by a former Miss America, that "goofy" sportscaster and that "airhead" weatherman - all were listening (it was not an interview) to former Secretary of State - the uber grumpy - Larry Eagleburger. He calls Obama a charlatan. He apparently forgot to take his medication this morning.  Then some commercials.

Then Hemmer and Kelly go on air and this is how the next 10 minutes goes: A "extended" overview of the "Mac" is back happenings of the McCain campaign, an "extended" clip - of Reverend Wright trashing our country, Stewart Varney - the business reporter turned Sean Hannity wannabee and then a few seconds of Sara Palin cancelling her interview with Kelly. There was something else about Obama's Goal of wanting to bankrupt the coal industry. Other than the Wright sound clip nothing was said about the Obama campaign and what they're doing the day before the election.

What just happened was a 8-10 minute unpaid commercial for the Republicans. This is not news. This is why Fox is consistently and rightly bashed for unfair and unbalanced reporting. I'm in search of fair and balanced. I don't hate Obama nor the McCain-Palin folks. I'm an independent. I want news. Real Walter Cronkite kind of news! I want to hear what everyone is doing. Including the Libertarians. But you're not going to find it anywhere on Fox or NBC or MSNBC or CNN or CBS or ABC, and most definitely NOT at The New York Times. The Times used to be my favorite read. Not anymore. The only source where you might find anything close to fair and balanced is NPR - not the shows, but the "real" news breaks.
