So, one has to wonder…

ts title5 how the State of Florida can afford to keep those ag inspection stations open, especially in these VERY difficult economic times. Ever been down FL way? These are weigh station “like” places along the interstate that truckers must pull in, wait on a long line, only to find out when you get up to the window that the “inspectors” are just sitting there watching TV or shooting the breeze with other “inspectors”  completely ignoring what’s going on around them.

Pulling in is a complete waste of time. Whoops, there goes Hector flying by in the rental RV filled with marijuana headed up to NYC. He doesn’t have to stop. In California, which is broke, all vehicles stop at an ag inspection stop. Truckers in FL can get a bypass transponder after paying an annual fee, which I REFUSE to pay.

I drive a flatbed and move steel. What I carry has nothing to do with agriculture, horticulture, aquaculture or consumer services. I am being harassed by unnecessarily being asked “Is that going to a job site?” That’s when the “inspectors” sitting inside the booth are not playing cards or eating pizza.

One has to also wonder why these “inspectors” are not actually working - driving around doing something useful like - oh I don’t know – INSPECTING – peanuts, peanut butter and tomatoes. You know…agriculture! Maybe head up to Georgia and give their incompetent colleagues a hand. They all have expensive “squad” cars they get to drive home in as well as nice uniforms with shiny badges.

These inspection stations are a boondoggle. I’ve been saying it for years now. OOIDA is silent on their existence. More and more of the taxpayers money is being spent on keeping them open. I just can’t understand why the Governor and the legislature hasn’t shut them down and required the “inspectors” to get out in the field and do something. Or are they waiting for someone else to die from uninspected bad food? Or is harassing and fleecing truckers too much fun?
