I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

This is all my son's fault. My son, soon to be 21, is all about the water. He repairs, paints and builds boats. He just became a certified scuba diver. He has been fishing ever since he could say fish. He vows never to live far from a body of water. So, he has been bugging me now for about a year to go with him and try sushi. I have consistently said thanks but no thanks. A few years ago I went to a relatives house. I was told that for dinner we were having some kind of "sushi" salad. I was told there would be a dee-licious succulent kind of "slightly" cooked fish in the salad. "You'll love it!" Well it was horrible - inedible. Makes me sick just to think about it. I only like fish the McDonald's way - deep fried in volcanic hot boiling oil with some salt and a gob of tartar sauce smeared all over the top with a slice of American cheese. When I was a kid, my mother would "cook" some kind of fish - I can't recall the name - perhaps flounder. Actually she would incinerate it until it became a kind of chalky colored chewy fish jerky with little or no taste. We of course added salt and tartar sauce and that was the Wednesday or Friday (good Catholics only ate Fish on Friday back then) meal. As soon as I grew a back bone I, of course, made sure I was no where to be found when this fish delight was served. And so my experience with fish has almost always been negative. Now living in Florida, I have broadened my pallet to include Mahi Mahi, tuna, grouper, scallops, crab and of course, lobster. All of it cooked. But never sushi. Until last week. I relented. My son is quite a persistent individual. He ordered. I waited, nervously. It came. I tasted. And it was great! He was right. It's nothing like I imagined. He told me I was using too much soy sauce. I said nonsense, but spent all night drinking water. Next time, I'll use little or none of it. And next time I'll have it with a Japanese beer or Saki. So at 53 years old, I've tried something new. And I woke up the next morning with no stomach problems and no tail.
